Letter From the Editor – Spring 2015

Listen Now

Guess I’ve always liked the thought of reaching. I was going through some boxes recently and came across a kids’ program I did: KLUO – Kid’s Looking Up & Out.

And now we have Reach UP, which is still going strong as we enter our eighth year. All of our articles have the spirit of reaching up and reaching out.

It’s crazy that the world tells you to dig in, to reach in to see the answer in yourself. I don’t know about you, but I can only dig in so deep and go so far. I’m no super woman even if I wanted to be! That’s just being real.

BUT another truth is also very real. When God helps me by His Spirit in me, I can go farther and do more. I am empowered to be and do all that He created me to be and do. It’s like I “reach UP” and take hold of what He gives me.

For you, reaching UP may come in the form of hugging your kids when they’re not so lovable. Or, when illness tries to keep you down (like Meggin in her article on the new pedicure), God brings things along in your life that you can accomplish.

When we talk about victims of abuse, reaching UP takes on a whole different look. Sometimes a person is so emotionally weak that she can barely look up. I know God sees the slightest attempt and sends help right away. Maybe that help comes in the form of the article in this issue that talks about what abuse looks like and what a person can do to get out of it.

With just one small thought, change, strength, empowerment can begin to takes hold. So yeah, I like looking UP, and I like Reaching UP. It’s the act of catching ahold of and going UP to the next level. I think you’re going to like this Spring issue!

Reaching UP with you,
Crystal Wacker Knapp
Editor-in-Chief

“I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong. By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back”

Philippians 3:12-14 – The MSG
