How to Make Your Thanksgiving Dinner Special

Take Your Thanksgiving Dinner from “Ehhh…” to “WOW!”

You may have received a box or bags with food for your Thanksgiving dinner. What do you do with it?

Or if you’re getting your food from the store, how can you make your Thanksgiving dinner special?

In this episode of R U Cooking?, Monique Holenko shares four delicious, quick and easy recipes that will make your Thanksgiving meal memorable! All with just a few simple ingredients.

Recipes in this episode:

Candied Yams

Ingredients:

  • 1 (29 ounce) can sweet potatoes
  • ¼ Cup butter, cut into pieces
  • ½ Cup brown sugar
  • 1 ½ cups miniature marshmallows


Instructions:
 

Step 1:  Preheat oven to 400 degrees 

Step 2:  Drain sweet potatoes (very well) and place in a medium baking dish. Distribute butter pieces evenly over the sweet potatoes. Sprinkle it with brown sugar. Layer with mini marshmallows.

Step 3:  Bake in the preheated oven 25 minutes or until sweet potatoes are tender and marshmallows have melted.


Green Bean Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (10 1/2 ounces) Campbell’s® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup (or cream of chicken soup)
  • 1/2 cup milk 
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce 
  • 4 cups cooked cut green beans 
  • 1 1/3 cups French’s® French Fried Onions (amount divided in recipe steps below)


Instructions: 

Step 1:  Heat the oven to 350°F. 

Step 2:  Stir the soup, milk, soy sauce, beans and 2/3 cup onions in a 1 1/2-quart casserole. 

Step 3:  Season the mixture with salt and pepper. 

Step 4:  Bake for 25 minutes or until hot. Stir the bean mixture. Sprinkle with the remaining 2/3 cup onions. 

Step 5:  Bake for another 5 minutes or until the onions are golden brown.

 

Apple Walnut Stuffing Recipe

Make it the way you like it!  Add cranberries, or Sausage, bacon… It’s a great way to add a touch of sweetness.

Full Recipe (½ recipe shown on Episode)

  • 12 oz Bag of Stuffing
  • 4 Tablespoons of butter melted 
  • 1 Cup chopped apples, we used granny smith (green ones) or gala will work also
  • ½ Cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 Cups broth (chicken, vegetable or bouillon cubes)


Instructions: 

Step 1:  Melt Butter in large saucepan

Step 2:  Add chopped apples and cook for 3-4 minutes until tender

Step 3:  Add 2 cups of broth and bring to a boil

Step 4:  Remove from heat

Step 5:  Stir in bag of stuffing mix (you can serve at this point if you would like) – add a little more broth if it is still dry.

Or pour stuffing into a large casserole dish, cover and bake for 20 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the stuffing is lightly browned and hot.

 

Honey Butter Skillet Corn

Creamy, sweet, and delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter 
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 bag (16 oz) frozen corn – or 2 cans any variety
  • 2 ounces cream cheese cut into chunks
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper


Instructions: 

Step 1:  In a skillet pan, over medium-high heat, melt the butter and honey. Once melted add the frozen corn and cook for 5-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cooked through.

Step 2:  Add cream cheese, salt, and pepper. Stir together and let it cook, about 3-5 minutes, while stirring occasionally.

Step 3:  Serve immediately. Leftovers keep well, covered in a container, and stored in the fridge.
